Sir John Bradfield, the visionary behind the foundation of the Cambridge Science Park and the expansion of Felixstowe docks, has died, aged 89.
The bursar of Trinity College, Cambridge for nearly 40 years transformed the colleges finances by seeing the potential of parcels of land held by the college for centuries. Trinity had owned the 140 acres of farmland on the outskirts of the city since 1546 when Bradfield spotted its potential as the site for a science park. The development of Felixstowe docks was possible through a parcel of 3,800 acres in Suffolk owned by Trinity since 1932.
