The big four banks could be forced to sell thousands of branches after the Competition and Markets Authority dismissed warnings of the cost.
Britain’s competition regulator has identified the large network of branches run by the biggest banks – RBS, Barclays, Lloyds and HSBC – and free bank accounts as potential barriers to entry.
