British consumers have been cheered into spending more by the Indian summer into spending more than any time since 2010.
While bellwether retailers such as Next, M&S and SuperGroup may have blamed the warm weather for stopping shoppers splashing out on coats and scarves, overall spending last month rose by 1.5%.
According to Visa Europe hotels, as and restaurants led the way, with spending up 9.6% on the year. Food drink and tobacco rose 4.4%. And clothing, though clearly not the right sort of clothing, also rose by 2.5%.
