Sainsbury’s spends £150m to lower prices

Sainsbury’s is to spend £150m on lowering prices in response to the success of discount rivals Aldi and Lidl.

The company reported a £290m loss before tax in the six months to 27 September compared to £433m last time. A £665m charges bill after a writedown on the value of its property portfolio hit the firm’s accounts.
