Transport for London has begun consulting on plans to transform Old Street roundabout, which could unlock a major redevelopment site over the station.
The consultation proposes to create a new peninsula space incorporating the central island site of the roundabout.
In the short term the scheme would create a public space and additional shops above the station. But over the medium term TfL plans to upgrade the station to provide additional capacity for Tech City.
Once the improvements have been completed, TfL said it would “consider the possibilities of a new development at Old Street built over the refurbished station”.
