JD Sports asks for rent cut

JD Sports has appealed to its landlords to reduce the rent bill for some of its Bank chain of fashion stores as it seeks to cut costs.

Executive chairman Peter Cowgill said that the retailer sort a switch to turnover-based rents for 25 of its 80-plus Bank stores.

While trainer sales have led to healthy profits for JD Sports 480-store core sportswear business, the Bank fashion arm has failed to match that pace.
