‘Gimmicks’ caused Asda sales fall

Underlying sales at Asda have gone backwards, as the grocery price war takes its toll on what had been Britain’s best performing ‘big four’ grocer.

The British arm of Walmart said sales fell 1.6% in the 13 weeks to September 30. Chief executive Andy Clarke said that ‘desperate’ price-wars by rivals had hit sales.
