German discount chains Aldi and Lidl are searching for sites for smaller town centre convenience shops as part of a £600m development drive.
Aldi is looking for stores as small as 6,000 sq ft — about the size of a Sainsbury’s Local — after trialling an Aldi City Store in Kilburn, north London.
Lidl, meanwhile, is taking over a Co-operative store in Kentish Town, also in north London, to try its first outlet at only 7,500 sq ft.
