More shops are empty

The number of empty shops has increased for the first time in two years, according to figures from the British Retail Consortium.

The town centre vacancy rate rose from 10.1% in July to 10.3% in October. Footfall also fell by 0.8% in October year-on-year.

Meanwhile the collapse of Phones4U has left it’s administrators with £168m of unsecured debt, including a £78m unpaid tax bill, of which just 0.4%, or £672,000, will be paid.
