‘Housing needs institutional cash’

Brandon-Lewis-MP-THUMB.jpegVIDEO: Housing minister Brandon Lewis MP has called for more institutional investment into the private rented sector.

Lewis said London needed more investment from institutions into the housing market to help combat the city’s housing crisis.

He was speaking today at the 2014 London Property Summit at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, SW1.

“I’d love to see more institutional investment coming into the housing market, both in the PRS and affordable housing sectors and the shared equity sector as well, so we see more opportunities for growth in the housing market on the supply side, to try and catch up with and meet demand,” said Lewis.

He added that the task of creating affordable places for people to live in London was “a challenge”.

“We’ve got to make sure there is a really wide range of offers, whether it’s in the private rented sector, affordable homes, people who want to buy their own homes, people who want to be in shared equity, and in social housing as well, so it’s a very complicated market,” he said.
