Nearly nine in 10 people agree with Queens Park Rangers FC’s stadium-led regeneration plan for Old Oak Common in west London.
The Premier League club said 89% (2,524 people) of respondents to a public consultation agreed with its vision on its plans for a 40,000-seat stadium and 24,000 homes.
It added that 88% supported Old Oak as the location for a new QPR Stadium, while just 12% disagreed.
Old Oak is intended to replace the club’s current Loftus Road ground in Shepherds Bush, W12. Of the planned homes in the Sir Terry Farrell-designed scheme, a significant number would be for private rented sector use and affordable housing.
Tony Fernandes, chairman of Queens Park Rangers, said: “We are delighted that so many of our fans and members of the local community share our vision for the future of both QPR and Old Oak. This is only the first stage of consultation and we will continue to work with the community as we develop our plans in more detail.”
The club still faces opposition from affected landowner Cargiant, which wants to pursue its own regeneration plans.
Fernandes added: “QPR have been in the area for over 100 years and have a loyal fan base. We need to move on from Loftus Road if we are to sustain a top-flight football club and Old Oak Common is the only realistic place for us to move.”
