Birmingham unveils £4bn transport plan

Birmingham_city_centre.jpegBirmingham has unveiled plans to invest £4bn in the city’s transport infrastructure.

A white paper entitled Birmingham Connected proposes three new tram routes, nine sprint bus routes and a “super tunnel” running under the city centre. The paper also outlines improvements to a number of existing rail links and stations.

Plans also include the designation of green travel districts where walking and cycling would be prioritised and low-emission zones to encourage taxis and buses to switch to electric power.
