Fitness First to expand in india

British gym chain Fitness First has announced plans to expand in India, investing more than £16m opening 30 gyms across the sub-continent.

They leisure company already has seven gyms in the country, and now wants to open additional gyms in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore in a bid to increase its membership from 5,274 to 45,000 over the next five years.

Revenue for the Indian gym and fitness market is expected to surpass £1.5bn this year, and will grow as India’s middle-class grows tenfold from around 50m now to half a billion by 2015, with household incomes in excess of £530bn.
