London has lost its position as the world’s number one financial centre to New York, according to an influential new survey.
Kinetic Partners interviewed nearly 300 financial service professionals and found that 59% thought that New York was the world’s number one financial centre, while just 38% plumped for London.
In 2012 London’s share of the same vote was 65%, while last year it was 44%. Respondents expect that this slide will continue, with only 28% believing that London will be the world’s number one in five years time. Over half believed that Shanghai would overtake both London and New York by 2019.
