Portuguese property market benefits from immigration

The Portuguese property market is enjoying a revival, benefiting from a residence permit for investment scheme for non-EU citizens and a separate scheme that allows EU citizens moving to Portugal to reside there tax free.

According to Immigration and Borders Service’s estimates, the residence for investment scheme has brought in a total of 1 billion euros, of which 972 million euros has been in property purchases. Chinese citizens account for the vast majority of the 1,775 permits issued.
