U.K. stores increase discounting

U.K. stores are increasing their discounting, in both volume and value terms, ahead of Christmas and after the success of Black Friday.

Professional services firm Deloitte found that both the number and level of discounts had increased from a year earlier, the fourth year running that this has been the case. Discounts totaled between 8% and 78%.

PwC found two-thirds of 100 high street stores held sales or offered promotions in the past week, similar to last year. Discounts averaged 38%, also similar to last year.
