Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has been granted permission to start operations in Singapore, the first of a number of licenses that the specialty insurance unit plans to pursue.
The license is the first outside the U.S. for the unit, which is part of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and was formed last year to take advantage of opportunities to sell property and liability insurance to corporates.
BHSI plans to sell the full range of commercial insurance in Singapore, from energy and construction projects to financial institutions, the company said.
