More lenders could be subject to stress tests

Stress tests on eight U.K. banks, among them Barclays, HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, are due to be published by the Bank of England.

That number could rise to 30, however, as small building societies, new lenders and units of international banks are included among those having to undergo the tests, according to senior members of the industry.

A spokesman for the Prudential Regulation Authority, which conducts the tests, declined to comment.
