Primark to open at Coppergate

Primark has signed for its first store in York at Coppergate shopping centre.

The budget fashion brand has signed for a 15-year lease at the 56,155 sq ft Piccadilly site for an annual rent of circa £680,000 pa.

The store is on four levels and includes a 10,000 sq ft extension which is already on site.

The site was previously occupied by Marks & Spencer, which upsized to the new out-of-town scheme Vangarde Shopping Park at Monks Cross, where it moved in April to occupy a 100,000 sq ft store.

Coppergate shopping centre is owned by a Belgian subsidiary of La Salle Investment Management.

Prime Retail acted for the administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Tushingham Moore represented Primark.
