US oil firm fuels up Shard for debut UK base

Shard-THUMB.jpegA new oil and gas venture by two US-listed firms has selected the Shard, SE1, for its first UK office.

GE Oil & Gas’ and McDermott International’s io oil & gas consulting has signed a 10-year lease for 15,400 sq ft at the Southwark skyscraper.

It is understood to be paying  around £60 per sq ft.

Chief executive Dan Jackson said: “The launch of io marks a milestone in the offshore oil and gas industry, and taking offices in this prestigious and iconic building is a sign of our commitment to recruit the best talent.”

The letting follows a spate of recent deals to tenants including the Office Group and business consultancy Gallup.

It brings total lettings at the 600,000 sq ft office element of the tower to more than 260,000 sq ft.

Shard developer and co-owner Irvine Sellar and James Goldsmith, leasing director at the building’s asset manager REM, said: “These businesses will be a great addition to the London Bridge Quarter estate, and extends our community here to 29 tenants.”

The Shard is at the forefront of making the South Bank an office destination of choice, with take-up in the area hitting a high of 1.6m sq ft in 2014.

JLL and Knight Frank are letting agents on the Shard.
