Galliard hammers more homes at Upton Park

West-Ham-U-logo-THUMB.jpegGalliard is boosting the number of homes at West Ham United FC’s stadium by nearly 20%, making it the biggest football stadium residential redevelopment in London.

BUJ Architects-designed plans, which opened for consultation this week, propose 838 homes across 15 blocks ranging from three to 13 storeys.

Galliard had originally envisaged around 700 homes. The new plans dwarf the 650 homes built at Arsenal’s old Highbury home and the 434 planned at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium.

The alteration of the house builder’s plans comes a year after it agreed to purchase the Boleyn Ground, E13, from the club.

Some 9,500 sq ft of commercial and community space is also proposed for the eight-acre site.

The design acknowledges the heritage of the site, and makes references to the club’s legacy that include a potential Bobby Moore memorial garden.

West Ham will be leaving Upton Park at the end of the 2015-16 season to move to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, E15.

Galliard, which is shifting its attention away from the core West End, expects to start on site in Q4 2016.
