Meyer Bergman uncorks Vinopolis

Meyer Bergman is working up proposals for a South Bank retail scheme on a site that includes the former Vinopolis wine venue.

The opportunity fund manager is in talks with strategic land assembly special purpose vehicle Sherwood Thames Ventures to buy the 1 Bank End venue and the adjacent Thames House, SE1.

The combined site has the potential for a 140,000 sq ft scheme that would back on to fashionable Borough Market.

Meyer Bergman is considering various plans for the site, among which is a new retail arcade utilising the railway arches. The company’s first European retail fund already owns Burlington Arcade, W1, off Piccadilly.

Vinopolis announced earlier this month that it would close at the end of the year following the sale of the long leasehold interest in the site to an SPV. Network Rail owns the freehold.

Any deal to acquire the entire site by Meyer Bergman is expected to have a delayed completion in line with the closure of Vinopolis.
