Northern cities to drive house price growth

Northern cities will drive house price growth over the next year, as affordability issues limit the potential for gains in the highest-value markets, an analysis by Hometrack showed.

Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool and Sheffield are set to enjoy stronger house price growth, contrasting with cities in southern England which have benefited the most over the last five to six years.

“A focus on average UK house price movements masks critical trends at a city and sub-regional level,” Hometrack’s director of research, Richard Donnell, said.

Separately, a survey by Knight Frank showed most homeowners thought the value of their homes rose in February, however the index recorded the lowest perceived rate of price growth since summer 2013.
