Argent lined up for Tottenham jv

Tottenham-Hale-Station-CGI-THUMB.jpegHermes is in talks with Haringey council to establish a joint venture that would see Argent build 2,000 new homes at Tottenham Hale, N17.

The potential jv comes after Tottenham Hale was designated as a housing zone by the mayor of London last month. The zone is set to receive £45m of public funding to help unlock sites.

Haringey aims to provide homes with a mix of tenures, targeting 50% affordable housing.

Hermes owns the existing 22.2-acre Tottenham Hale retail park, which forms a substantial part of the proposed redevelopment area. The site adjoins land owned by the council and Transport for London.

Tottenham Hale has been earmarked for a station on the proposed Crossrail 2 route and it is already on the London to Stanstead Airport and Cambridge route. Once finalised, the jv will work with TfL on over-station development at Tottenham Hale.

Hermes chief executive Chris Taylor said: “We regard Argent as a best-in-class urban developer, with its innovative approach to place-making and partnership in a truly sustainable manner.”

The Tottenham Hale redevelopment is one of five major regeneration areas in Tottenham which the council hopes will bring in £1bn of investment in the wake of the 2011 London riots.

Alan Strickland, council cabinet member for housing and regeneration, said: “This is a great step forward in our plans to create a new district centre, bringing much needed new jobs and investment to Haringey and north London.”
