Convenience sector to grow 32% by 2019

The convenience market is forecast to grow by 32% by 2019, benefiting as people make smaller but more frequent trips to the shops, and Conviviality Retail is looking to profit from the trend.

Diana Hunter, chief executive officer of Conviviality Retail, says that while people might travel further for certain foods, price and convenience are the key factors for basic essentials.

The convenience store format is not immune to the problems of the retail sector, however. Morrison is closing 23 such stores, and Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar Worldpanel, is sceptical about how much shoppers are embracing the format.
