Swale borough council has resolved to grant planning approval for phase one of the £46m Sittingbourne regeneration project in Kent.
The Spirit of Sittingbourne development consortium, which includes Cathedral Group, Quinn Estates, Swale Borough Council and Essential Land, will deliver a seven-screen cinema, 29,000 sq ft of restaurant space and 34,000 sq ft of big-box retail at six different town centre sites.
Following the planning approval, infrastructure work will begin in summer 2015.
Cathedral Group chief executive Richard Upton, speaking on behalf of the Spirit of Sittingbourne consortium, said: “We are thrilled by the committee’s decision. We have worked really hard with Swale borough council to get to this stage, but finally we can now start work to give Sittingbourne the support it needs to build a really successful future.”
