The Church Commissioners had to share success at the 15th IPD/IPF Property Investment Awards as it took the award for 10-year absolute returns alongside Aviva’s The Lime Property Fund.
On a risk-adjusted basis, the two funds’ returns were so close there was nothing to choose between them, said Ian Cullen, advisory director to IPD and founder of the MSCI IPD index.
The Church Commissioners was the biggest winners on the day, also taking the award for best-performing specialist unlisted fund, up 17.9% in three years, and the 10-year relative return award.
The awards, hosted by Berwin Leighton Paisner, were presented by IPF chairman Max Sinclair along with Phil Tily, IPD executive director. They were joined by Cullen, acting as master of ceremonies.
There were some changes this year, with just one life fund award for the first time and a new award – Specialist Funds in the PFI, won by UBS CLOVA. But the tone among the industry’s leading fund managers remained upbeat.
A sign of the strength and depth of the property investment market was the appearance of many new names in this year’s awards list.
Just four firms – Hermes, Standard Life, Canada Life and the Church Commissioners – were familiar faces on the podium from 2014, with newcomers represented by Cordea Savills, Aberdeen Asset management and LaSalle Investment Management.
