BCSC appoints new chief

The British Council of Shopping Centres has appointed John Coyne as chief executive. Coyne is currently interim managing director of the Improving Health GP Federation, which consists of 20 GP practices in south Southwark. Prior to this he was commercial director at the charity Action for Children.

Bruntwood screens BBC site

Manchester city council and developer Bruntwood are planning a 1.8m sq ft development on the former BBC North site on Oxford Road. Combining Bruntwood’s adjacent holdings, the 10-acre site will cover 400,000 sq ft of tech and research space, 823,000 sq ft of office and retail space and 650 homes. Bruntwood bought the BBC site for around £29m in March.

Office investment up in Q1

Office investment in London’s West End has nearly doubled in Q1 compared with the same period in 2014, according to JLL. Transactions totalling £862m in Q1 2015 outshone the £440m traded the year before, with £1.7bn of additional stock under offer, debunking fears of a pre-election slowdown.

Lunson takes on retail head

Lunson Mitchenhall has poached Colliers International director Matthew Maynard to head shopping centre leasing as one of five new hires. Tristan Gleave joins as an associate director from Cushman & Wakefield, Emma Charlesworth from BWD Retail, Matthew Stephenson from TPF Retail and Natalie Mylroie from Tesco.

Addleshaw signs at Sovereign

Law firm Addleshaw Goddard has signed a deal to take 75,000 sq ft of office space at Bruntwood’s and Kier’s 3 Sovereign Square in Leeds. It will relocate from Sovereign House in 2016, taking a 17.5-year lease at the six-storey building – the bulk of the 93,240 sq ft office element.
