Locals say: Hands off our pub!

A raft of communities groups have been set up across the country to save beloved local boozers from the being closed and turned into flats and supermarkets.

The Plunkett Foundation, which helps local people save local treasures from corporate giants, says that it has helped to save 34 pubs, with a further 34 in the pipeline.

The model is for locals to take ‘community shares’ from which they will benefit financially if they manage to guide their pub to profit.
