Auction House London racks up record

Money,-keys,-houseAuction House London raised £18.7m at its latest auction, the firm’s highest single-sale total.

The sale was the first the firm has held in the Landmark London Hotel, NW1, where 61 lots sold out of 73 offered – an 84% success rate.

The trophy lot was withdrawn prior to the sale and is under offer for £8m, which is not included in the sale’s total.

The freehold terrace building in Camden, NW1, is arranged as six flats and is fully let on tenancies producing £245,000 pa. The price reflects a yield of 3.1%.

It was sold on behalf of a private owner, and bought by a trust.

A residential lot in Fulham, part of a probate sale, was the top lot on the day. The six-bedroom house on Marville Road, SW6, sold to a US couple for £1.3m off a £550,000 guide.

Auctioneer Andrew Binstock said: “This was one of the most popular lots we have ever seen. There were 358 downloads of the legal pack before the auction, and we had to take a break after it finally sold at the end of a 15-minute bidding war in order to wait for the room to settle.”

Residential lots proved popular. Circle Housing Association offered a five-bedroom house in Streatham, SW16, which sold for more than twice the guide price, at £356,000, to an owner-occupier.

The auction took place on 15 April.
