Chicago Fed president calls for rates to remain near zero till 2016

The president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Charles Evans, who is a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, has reiterated calls for interest rates in the US to remain near zero until next year.

Evans said he would prefer to see more signs of wage rises prior to any increase in interest rates.

Evans also said that the US economy looked to be strong enough to deal with a rate hike soon, provided the path of subsequent rate rises was gradual.
