Employee welfare is a big song and dance
Chiswick Park, W4, called in the Morris men, farm animals and a folk band to provide the business precinct’s 8,000 employees – from companies including PepsiCo, Walt Disney and Pernod Ricard – a novel distraction from the daily grind, and, not least, the general election.
The entertainment on 8 May was part of Chiswick’s “Enjoy Work” strategy, which follows research from Bupa finding that 85% of UK workers think their employers have a responsibility to look after their health and wellbeing.
Angus takes the heat to join Sables elite
JLL’s Angus Currie last month became the latest property professional to complete the Marathon des Sables, a punishing 160-mile trek over six days in 50-degree heat.
“A rigorous training programme over 18 months prepared us well, but was unable to replicate the searing heat and variable terrain of the Sahara. Crossing the finish line was an unforgettable experience,” said Currie, who is the agent’s head of tenant representation in the South East.
Currie has raised more than £20,000 for Combat Stress and Macmillan Cancer Support, and you can add to the total at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/MdS-2015
Young professionals party for charity
The opportunity to talk property in a salubrious London bar with people your own age was not lost on anyone, as more than 200 young surveyors descended on Fulham bar Embargo 59, SW6, last week for the Savills Young Professionals Party.
Agents, surveyors, lenders, investors and developers, assuredly categorised as “young”, mingled to the sounds of a DJ at the May 7 shindig, which was supported by recruitment firm Oyster Partnership and doubled as a fundraiser for Savills’ graduate charity Dreams Come True.
Through quarterly networking events, marathon running, sweepstakes and a host of other undertakings, the group has raised £60,000 for the charity, which supports children with serious illnesses.
In the summer, the Young Professionals will make another networking splash with the Savills Annual Duck Race Day. This will take place on 7 August at Bishops Park, SW6. A “family fun” day is promised, including a hog roast, bouncy castle, dance acts, singers and a Pimms tent. Keep an eye on these pages over the next few weeks for further information.

Simon’s record relay effort
Colliers International’s Simon Crotty has cemented his name in the record books after running from John O’Groats to Land’s End in five-and-a-half days.
We reported on 25 April that Crotty, Colliers’ head of city offices, was to take part in a 12-person relay run along the length of the UK to raise money for children’s Alzheimer’s charity Niemann-Pick.
The team left on 28 April and covered 1,500km (923 miles). They have surpassed their £50,000 fundraising target, but are still taking donations at https://mydonate.bt.com/events/npjogle2015
