Multinational biopharmaceutical firm Gilead Sciences has launched a 90,000 sq ft requirement in Cambridge as it looks to double the amount of space it occupies in the city.
Knight Frank has been appointed to advise on the requirement for the company, which is currently located at Granta Park on the outskirts of the city.
Gilead’s lease on 45,000 sq ft at the park expires in six years.
The company’s sales, marketing and clinical development departments for the UK and Ireland are based in Cambridge and the expansion space is to accommodate more research and development.
US REIT BioMed Realty Trust owns the 100-acre park, which is fully let but has around seven acres of development land that could accommodate a 140,000 sq ft extension.
However, Gilead is expected to also explore alternatives including nearby sites such as Chesterford Research Park.
The requirement is the latest step in a significant expansion programme for Gilead, which last year doubled the size of its offices at Stockley Park, Middlesex, when it prelet 97,000 sq ft at 2 Roundwood Avenue.
In its first-quarter results, Gilead reported a rise in revenue of more than £1.6bn compared with the same period last year, bringing total revenue up to £4.9bn.
In February, it was reported that the company was investing a further £19.6m into UK expansion.
