Japanese banking giant Nomura has sublet 40,000 sq ft in its former City home at 1 St Martin’s Le Grand, EC1.
Barts Health NHS Trust has agreed a deal for the second and third floors of the 270,000 sq ft block on a sublease expiring in March 2022.
Quoting rents for the space were £36 per sq ft.
Nomura bought the building in 1986 to house its UK banking operations but began subletting the majority of the space following its letting of 540,000 sq ft at Watermark Place, EC4, in 2009.
It formally changed headquarters last year when it sold 1 St Martin’s to Singaporean developer Ho Bee Investment for £171m.
Barts is currently based in Tottenham Court Road, WC1, but is moving because its existing building is due to be redeveloped.
Deloitte Real Estate advised Nomura; Essentia acted for Barts.
