Australian building approvals fall in April

The number of Australian building approvals dropped sharply in April, falling 4.4% on the month, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed.

Approvals for residential buildings fell 3.5% on the month, while those for non-residential properties were down 5.4%.

On the year, approvals rose 16.3% in April, a significant slowdown from the prior month’s 23.6% rise.
