Spider halts planning application

A decision by Plymouth city council to deny an application to build 57 homes has been upheld at appeal.

The planning application by Wainhomes Holdings was turned down on the grounds that it could destroy the last habitat of the ground-weaver spider, nothophantes horridus.

The decision was made despite there having been no sightings of the spider in 20 years.
