LandAid Summer Run: athletes raise cash for kids

LandAid-2013-runners-THUMB.jpegCompetitive spirit got property runners over the finish line at the 10km LandAid Summer Run last week.

Wedlake Bell’s Marc Leyshon and Trowers & Hamlins’ Dwynwen Lewis led the 750-strong stampede of industry competitors in Regent’s Park, NW1, taking the fastest male and female titles on a steamy Tuesday evening.

Leyshon crossed the line first with a time of 34 mins 40 seconds, closely followed by Tom Carpenter of Burges Salmon.

Lewis held on to her title from last year, winning the women’s event in 41 mins 21 seconds.

A record number of runners turned out this year for the event, which is in its 19th year and raises money for disadvantaged young people.

Andrew Mercer of Capita was crowned fastest male over 40 with a time of 34 mins 57 secs, while Evelyn Mullins of Broadgate Estates took the title of fastest female in the same category, completing the course in 42 mins 51 seconds.

Burges Salmon was awarded the Fastest Team prize.

LandAid chief executive Paul Morrish said: “It was my first 10k and it really, really hurt! But it’s looking to be our most successful LandAid Run ever. A massive thanks to everyone who helped us.”

Rob Bould, the chief executive of event sponsor Bilfinger GVA and LandAid trustee, said: “It’s fantastic to see so much enthusiasm for this year’s LandAid Summer Run and to have a record number of people signed up not only from Bilfinger GVA but our peers as well. LandAid makes a real difference to so many young people’s lives across the country.”

LandAid hopes to raise £85,000 when all funds have been counted.
