Gloucester mixed-use scheme planned

plans-THUMB.jpegRokeby Merchant Developments is to submit plans for a mixed-use leisure and residential scheme at the 19th century Bakers Quay site in Gloucester.

The joint venture between Merchant Place Developments and Rokeby Developments exchanged contracts in April to acquire the 3.7-acre site, which was formerly the premises of West Midland Farmers.

The scheme includes a new hotel and restaurants as well as the conversion of several of the listed buildings for residential use.

The jv has already agreed a £9m leasehold deal with Premier Inn for a 105-bedroom hotel, a Brewers Fayre restaurant and a Costa Coffee outlet.

Michael Chicken, chief executive of Merchant Place Developments, said: “We are backing this exciting scheme because we believe it will be a great catalyst in helping Gloucester fulfil its potential to become an even more important destination for leisure and business and an increasingly popular place to live.”

Work is set to begin on the site between March and June of next year. A significant proportion of the scheme will be completed by summer 2017.
