A strategic framework for the future development plans of Romford town centre have been approved by Havering council.
The Tibbalds, BBP Regeneration and CampbellReith proposals include 2,200 homes, 300,000 sq ft of commercial space and 43,000 sq ft of public realm improvements.
The improvements aim to maximise the opportunities presented by the arrival of Crossrail in 2018.
Plans focus in particular on an improved Market Place (pictured), modernised office space and improved public transport links.
Katja Stille, associate director at Tibbald, said: “Crossrail coming to Romford will be a massive boost for the town, dramatically increasing its connectivity and opening it up for residential, retail and commercial growth and development.
“This framework has been created so that future plans are brought forward in line with a single strategic vision that draws on the town’s existing qualities as well as helping to create as much advantage as possible from future regeneration proposals.”
