Sir Richard Leese told Estates Gazette that he wants to see more place-based settlements coming out of the Comprehensive Spending Review – with money that was traditionally carved up for different departments made available in their entirety for areas like Greater Manchester.
Leese emphasised the importance of infrastructure in helping to bring forward development in the North, saying the northern powerhouse will be reliant on reducing the travel time between cities, though said the funding for this will still have to come from central government.
