Residents plan own design for Mount Pleasant site

Residents living near London’s Mount Pleasant sorting office have teamed up with Legal and General and a housing association to launch a bid for the site, which could cost £300m.

Residents in the area had previously opposed a £1bn luxury development on the site, wanting instead for community-approved housing to be built there.

The Royal Mail already has permission from London mayor Boris Johnson to build 681 homes on the site. The design put forward by the residents is based on a circus of seven-storey mansion blocks and incorporates pedestrian routes and more affordable housing.
