Manchester-based Select Property Group has been granted planning permission for phase one of a major mixed-use development in Newcastle’s Strawberry Place.
The site, next to St James’ Park, is a 331-bedroom student development that will operate under Select’s Vita Student brand. Vita’s nearby Westgate development is due for completion in July 2016.
Chief development officer Ken Knott said: “We are delighted to have been granted planning permission for phase one of this exciting scheme. Newcastle is a fantastic city and the location of Strawberry Place is exceptional.
“The city is a top destination for international and postgraduate students, both of whom want high-quality accommodation and high standards of service. As the UK’s only student accommodation brand that addresses service and quality, we are looking forward to bringing our award-winning offering to students for the September 2017 academic year.”
Hanro Group sold the site to Vita and is bringing forward a hybrid application on its remaining land holding at the site, including a hotel and office.
