Berkeley Group is working up plans to more than double the number of homes proposed at West End Green, W2, the 2.7- acre Edgware Road development site it bought for £180m in June.
The FTSE 100 listed house builder has submitted a scoping opinion for the plans, which propose as many as 700 homes – more than double the 300 homes provided for by a 2005 planning consent.
The substantial increase would be achieved by almost doubling the height of the tower element of the scheme, 40 storeys instead of the consented 22.
A major supermarket and holiday homes have also been dropped from the original consent to make way for the extra homes, said divisional chairman Angus Michie.
The move to increase the scheme’s density comes after Knight Dragon secured a revised planning consent for Greenwich Peninsula, SE10, which increases the number of homes from around 10,000 to more than 15,000.
Quintain is also seeking to substantially increase the number of homes it can build at Wembley Park, increasing the scale of the development by 1.3m sq ft to a total of 6.3m sq ft.
