Giving a voice to women in property

Gather more than 100 women in a room and the noise is immense, so why don’t we hear more female voices in real estate? EG is seeking to change that.

Ladies of real estate, from this time next month (4 November, to be exact) you effectively work the rest of the year for free. That is the effect of the gender pay gap. And while with each report into the issues of gender in business the situation gets marginally better for women, there is still a very, very long way to go.

Last week EG, in association with FTi Consulting and in support of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, launched REWIRE, a cross-industry group for women in the built environment to network and support each other and to help those that need it to find their voice.

Compiling a list of women to attend the launch was not difficult. The number of women in the industry is not small, but the number who have a voice is. REWIRE (Recognising and Empowering Women In Real Estate) has been established to help change that.

At EG we have already committed to making sure we have at least one woman on each of our panel debates – not for tokenism, but to truly reflect the nature of the industry. Through REWIRE we aim to help more women – particularly those new to the industry – to harness their knowledge and talents: and not just to achieve, but to shout about it. We will hold regular networking events, debates and workshops to help women find their voices, to build confidence and to self-promote.

REWIRE will give EG greater access to the women of the industry and help us make sure that we are delivering content and events that are informative, interesting and useful for the whole of the real estate world.

If you would like to join REWIRE and connect with more women working in the property sector, send your contact details to samantha.mcclary@egi.co.uk
