London & Regional Properties have unveiled plans for the redevelopment of the Skipton House office block in Elephant & Castle.

Plans for the London Road site will double the existing amount of office space to more than 500,000 sq ft and deliver approximately 450 homes, alongside a cultural quarter at Elephant & Castle.

Proposals include cultural and community space, an elevated park and the reinstatement of a lost street.

The development is being designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and is to be unveiled next week at London’s South Bank University.

Geoffrey Springer, head of development at London & Regional, said: “This will be an iconic development, providing new cultural and community space and, most importantly, new jobs and homes. The development will also deliver new open space and a vastly improved public realm, strengthening the ongoing regeneration of Elephant & Castle.

Cllr Mark Williams, Southwark’s cabinet member for regeneration and new homes said: “This is an exciting new project that will complement and enhance our own vision for the new Elephant & Castle town centre and bring another world class development to the heart of Southwark, creating a wide range of benefits for our community.
