City of London plans 3,700 new homes

The City of London’s biggest housebuilding scheme since the construction of the Barbican estate will see 3,700 homes built on existing estates and land close to the Square Mile over the next 10 years.

The new homes will include both social housing and properties offered at the market rate. The City of London Corporation will consider working with developers, shared ownership and government schemes in order to secure the best outcome.

Its policy chairman, Mark Boleat, said rising housing costs were viewed as a significant problem.
