Ealing council’s cabinet has agreed plans to redevelop its head offices in Ealing Broadway, W5, for new homes, a customer services centre and replacement office accommodation for the council.
A total of 360 homes will be built on the site at 14-16 Uxbridge Road. The council said it would retain a substantial number to provide affordable housing.
Revenue generated through the project would pay for a new customer service centre and new library to replace Ealing Central Library and the council’s head offices.
It said it was considering whether to build the replacement offices behind Perceval House on the current car park, so that operations can transfer to the new location before the old block is demolished.
As an alternative the council said it would consider moving to a different site either permanently or temporarily in the immediate vicinity of Ealing Broadway.
A development partner for a joint venture is to be selected next year. Work would commence in 2018, subject to planning permission.
The council is still determining the office space it will require from 2020 onwards.
Council leader Julian Bell said: “We’re sitting on top of a potentially very valuable site and when you consider the tough times we’re in financially and the desperate need to provide more affordable homes, it makes perfect sense for us to release the site’s value.”
