Lindhill secures Barking sports centre

bptw partnership - Axe Street concept - dayDeveloper Lindhill is working up plans for a £50m residential led mixed use scheme in Barking Town Centre after winning a tender to buy the former Abbey Sports Centre from the local council.

The company has appointed BPTW Architects to design a 150 home scheme which will include a three screen boutique cinema and three restaurants on the ground floor.

The first floor of the development will be occupied by the North East London Foundation Trust for a technology and training centre for staff to deliver integrated care.

A planning application is due to be submitted in early 2016, with construction expected to start later next year subject to consent.

The 25,000 sq ft sports centre occupies an island site of just under one acre.

Lindhill has a track record of working with local authorities and registered housing providers with current schemes including redevelopment of a former cinema on Fulbourne Road in Waltham Forest, E17.

Lindhill’s Gary Fitzpatrick said:  “We are excited to be involved in the regeneration of Barking Town Centre and are confident that this mixed use high quality landmark development would enhance and complement the growing requirement for the borough’s aspirations.”

BNP Paribas Real Estate advised the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
