Old Vinyl Factory attracts media academy

Old-Vinyl-FactoryMedia and entertainment group Global is to open an 800-student university technical college at U+I Group’s The Old Vinyl Factory, Hayes, Middlesex.

The Global Academy, aimed at students who want to work in the broadcast and digital media industries, is due to open next September as part of a £250m regeneration scheme.

U+I Group – a merger between Development Securities and Cathedral Group – bought the 17-acre site in 2011.

In 2013 it received planning consent for 750,000 sq ft of commercial offices, 60,000 sq ft of creative offices in the Record Store building, 642 homes, a nine-screen cinema, restaurants and cafés.

The development will also include an energy centre as an extension of the existing Powerhouse; a residential scheme in the Boiler House and Material Store, and a Willmott Dixon PRS scheme.

The Old Vinyl Factory was built in 1907 as the headquarters of EMI and His Master’s Voice.
