MPs’ empty office block could cost £140m

An office block rented by House of Commons’ officials to provide additional space for staff when MPs have to move out of the Palace of Westminster so it can undergo renovation work has remained empty for a year amid concerns about terrorism.

There are concerns that MPs could become targets as they move between parliament and their proposed new base.

The empty office block could cost taxpayers as much as £140m by 2029.
